Charlie, a baby red kangaroo, is a common sight at the Williams E. Christoffersen Veterans Home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
“It’s amazing what he does,” said Noralyn Kahn, the home’s administrator. Kahn says when residents who suffer from dementia or other memory issues hold Charlie, they “come right back.”
Charlie is also a big draw with visitors. Kahn credits him with helping make a kid’s visit with his grandparents at the home a more positive and exciting experience.
Kahn has raised 13 other kangaroos over the last 16 years, but says Charlie is extra special.
“He has to be the sweetest one we’ve ever had.”
